Your attitude towards life dictates how you live in a very large way. If you keep a negative attitude towards most things in life, you will find yourself having more negative experiences. It is easy to live in a victim mentality because it means you can dodge your fears.
Having an attitude of gratitude takes strength because you need to make a conscious decision about having a generally thankful outlook towards life. Developing a mindset that you will make being thankful a habit is not easy but it sure is worth it. Expressing positivity about every aspect of your life, be it small or huge. Appreciating the smallest gestures, all of this takes a warm and welcoming heart.
The thing is, once you master gratitude, everything in your life becomes easy. Problems that would normally stress you out, do not anymore. Keeping a thankful attitude helps lessen your anxiety and depression. When you quit complaining about all that is wrong in life and start appreciating all that is going right in life, your mind will be at ease. You will feel happy and optimistic. Gratitude is a sure way to increase contentment in your life.
It might be difficult to develop an attitude of gratitude, but it is not impossible. Look around you, we all have people in our lives who are always happy and appreciative. The reason those people are happy is because they have gratitude. If they can master gratitude, so can you! It does not matter if you fall during this process, get back up and spread a little joy daily. You might not know but things as little as appreciating the way someone smells can make a person’s day. The next time they step out, they will feel a little better about themselves because you told them they smelled nice.
Kindness is slowly fading away. Do not let the negativity of this world consume you. Your mind can be your biggest enemy or your biggest asset, it all depends on how you choose to use it!
Let’s discuss an example.
You had a hard day at work but on your way back home, you bumped into an old friend. You talked to them, had coffee with them and went home. Now you can do two things that will have a very different impact on your present and tomorrow.
Scenario #1:
As soon as you reach home, you can go back to being angry again. You can be frustrated with work and curse your life. This will ruin your night, probably your sleep, and your next day at work too. Before you know it, you will be in an endless cycle of misery. Because of that one night where you chose to look at the negatives instead of the positives. You will soon start hating your work, you will become unhappy and if you are unhappy, you will become negative.
This may seem like an exaggeration. But a negative mindset always originates from somewhere. It is always that one time you chose to lose control that leads you to an endless cycle of misery.
Scenario#2:
But you can save yourself from all that misery. It takes a moment to decide the fate of your future. When you reach home, instead of thinking about your bad day at work, you think about how good it was to meet your old friend after such a long time. Reminiscing all the school memories, laughing about older times. And how everything was good at some point in your life! You can take this as a consolation for your bad day at work. Think to yourself, so what if I had a bad day at work? All that matters is that the day ended on a good note. I will take the criticism and use it for my betterment.
Because you chose to think this way, you had a good night sleep and the next day at work, instead of feeling angry, you tried to be better than yesterday. If you do this, your life will be content. Something happened in your life that could have very well been a problem if you had decided to make it one, but you did not and that is why, your headspace is positive and your soul is at ease.
